I am sure every mother has had a child that is completely obsessed with a toy or character at some point in their childhood. Well my 4 year old is really into Super Mario Brothers and has been for nearly a year. A couple of weeks ago he received all the Super Mario action figures in the mail from the “Pu-P-S” man as he calls him. I watched him play with them on the ledge of my fireplace and felt he was missing something to go with them.

So I had this ingenious idea to make my own Super Mario Brother Tubes. How hard could that actually be, right?? It actually was really simple and I just so happened to have everything I needed laying around my house. I am somewhat of a hoarder when it comes to things I think could possibly be recycled into something else. I don’t need the show or anything so no interventions going on here. I decided to show you how I made them in case you have the same toy crazed child in your household.

Items needed:

Mailer tube ~ You can get these at UPS if you don’t have one laying around

Empty box

Hand Saw

Green paint

Glue

Masking Tape

Polyurethane ~ optional

First thing I did was cut the tube into 3 pieces with the saw. They do not have to be perfectly straight since you will be covering them with the box in a minute.

Next, take your box and cut a strip approximately an inch and a half to 2 inches wide and make sure it is long enough to go around the tube all the way. Glue the piece of box and wrap it around the tube and use the masking tape to hold it tight.

Once the glue dries a bit than you will be ready to paint. I did approximately 3 or 4 thin coats but you have to let it dry fully before doing the next coat or the other coat will come off. After you get all the paint finished and dried you can use your polyurethane to do a coat just to help keep the paint on since it will be played with.
